Are we here to awaken from our illusion of separateness as Thích Nhất Hạnh said? The answer is yes. The answer is no. Truth is that the illusion of separateness exists for the purpose of companionship i.e. love. To be more precise. The illusion of separateness exists so we, the one, would not be- or rather would not feel alone hence why the reason for all diversity in the world, which is self really, is nothing else but the simply joy of companionship more commonly known as love.
